Arbyn's quizzes protect the reward on both sides: a shopper can't farm it by retaking the quiz over and over, and a shopper who genuinely earned it never loses it just because they closed the chat.
Set how many times a shopper can take a quiz
In the quiz builder, there's a Retake limit setting with four options:
Once (the default): a shopper gets a single attempt, and sees their result on any return.
Twice or 3 times: a small number of attempts before the limit kicks in.
Unlimited: no cap at all, useful for a quiz with no reward attached, or a pure "find your match" experience where farming isn't a concern.
The limit is counted per shopper: it's tied to their browser session, and, when they're signed in, also to their Shopify customer account. That second part matters: clearing cookies or using a private window won't reset the limit for a customer who's logged in, so the cap holds even against someone trying to work around it.
What the shopper sees once they've hit the limit
Instead of the usual Start button, the quiz opens on a screen that tells them they've already taken it, and shows the exact result they earned the first time:
their reward, with a code to copy and a note to apply it at checkout,
their score and tier, for a scored quiz, or their matched product, for a recommendation quiz,
any "you might also like" suggestions.
So even if a shopper closed the chat the moment they finished, nothing is lost. Their reward is waiting for them the next time they open the quiz. If the discount they won has since expired, they'll still see what they earned, just without a dead code to copy, so they're never handed something that no longer works.
A quiz must have a real reward before it can go live
If any tier in your quiz promises a reward, whether that's a discount, a free product, or a bundle, you have to pick the actual discount, product, or bundle behind it before the quiz can be activated. This closes off a shopper ever seeing "Free gift!" or "15% off" with nothing real behind it to claim. Only a plain free-shipping promise is allowed to stay generic; everything else, including a gift code, has to point at something real and currently live.
"Gift card" is really a "Gift code"
Arbyn can't mint a stored-value Shopify gift card on your behalf, so the reward type once labeled Gift card is now called Gift code: a real, redeemable discount code the shopper applies at checkout. You pick the discount that backs it, exactly like any other discount-code reward, so what a shopper ends up copying is always a live, working code, not a promise of a gift card that was never actually issued.
The result moment: what the shopper sees when they finish
A finished quiz leads with the win, not the raw score:
a congratulatory message, or your own tier label, with a short line about the reward they earned; the score itself, on a scored quiz, appears as a smaller line underneath, not the headline,
the reward code shown in a copy button, plus an Apply at checkout button. Tapping it sends the shopper straight to checkout with the discount already applied, or, if their cart is empty at that moment, drops the code in so it applies the instant they do check out. No copying and pasting required.
Quiz activity in your inbox
Every step of a quiz shows up on that conversation's own timeline, so you can watch the funnel play out for a specific shopper:
Started quiz, the moment they open and begin one,
Completed, with their score, tier, or matched product, and the reward they earned,
Claimed reward, when they copy or apply the code.
These entries only appear for a shopper who also chatted, since there needs to be a conversation for them to attach to. A quiz taken by a visitor who never opened the chat is still counted in your quiz's own completion numbers; it simply has no conversation timeline to sit inside.
Good to know
The reward code you see is always the real, live Shopify discount you linked. Arbyn checks it's still active before showing it to a shopper, so nobody is ever handed a dead code.
Completions are tracked privately, per session and per signed-in customer. Nothing about a shopper's quiz activity follows them across different stores.
A quiz's completion rate and lead count reflect real, tracked completions, not estimates.
FAQ
Can a shopper reset their own retake limit by clearing their browser data? Not if they're signed in to your store. The limit is tied to their Shopify customer account as well as their browser session, so it holds either way for a known customer. An anonymous shopper who clears their browser is starting a fresh session, so that part of the check no longer applies to them specifically.
What happens if the discount behind a shopper's earned reward expires before they come back to claim it? They'll still see the result screen and what they earned, but without a copyable code, since Arbyn never shows a code that's no longer valid.
Does a shopper lose their result if they close the chat right after finishing? No. Their result is saved the moment they finish, and it's shown to them again automatically the next time they open the quiz, since they've already hit their retake limit.
Why was "Gift card" renamed to "Gift code"? Because that's what it actually is. Arbyn issues a real, live discount code rather than a stored-value Shopify gift card, and the reward type's name now says exactly that, so there's no gap between what's promised and what a shopper actually receives.
