Product bundles: how the discount actually works

Where a bundle's discount code comes from, what it can and can't be used on, what happens if you delete it in Shopify, and how bundle pricing stays accurate across currencies.

A bundle lets Arbyn offer a curated set of your products together at a discount, in chat, on the widget's Perks tab, or both. A shopper taps once, every product in the bundle goes into their cart, the discount applies, and they land on checkout with the savings already showing.

This article covers the part merchants ask about most: where the discount code comes from, what it can and can't be used on, what happens if you delete it, and how the price a shopper sees stays accurate no matter what currency they're shopping in.

Do I need to create a discount code myself?

No, you have two options, and you choose by what you type into the bundle's discount code field.

Leave the field empty (and set a discount percentage), and Arbyn creates a real Shopify discount code for you automatically, the first time a shopper actually takes the bundle. You'll see it appear in Shopify's own Discounts list, named something like ARBYN-BUNDLE-xxxxxxxx. It's applied for the shopper automatically; they never type or copy anything.

Type your own code, and Arbyn uses exactly that code and never touches it. It won't rename it, recreate it, or delete it. It's yours to manage in Shopify, same as any discount you'd set up for another purpose.

Either way, the bundle's discount is always the percentage you set on the bundle itself. Set "Save 15%" and the code behind it, whichever way it was created, discounts by 15%.

Can a shopper use the bundle's code on other products?

No. A code Arbyn creates for a bundle is fenced to that bundle's own products, so someone who found the code and tried it elsewhere would get nothing off. For a collection-based bundle, where Arbyn draws a different set of products from your chosen collections on each conversation, the code is fenced to the collections instead, so it stays valid no matter which fresh set of products gets drawn for a given shopper.

What if I delete Arbyn's discount code in Shopify?

Nothing breaks. Deleting a discount from your Shopify Discounts page is a completely normal thing to do, and Arbyn expects it. The next time a shopper takes that bundle, Arbyn notices the code no longer works and mints a fresh one automatically, so the shopper still gets their discount without you having to do anything.

(If you typed your own code and later deleted it yourself in Shopify, that's different: Arbyn won't replace a code it never created. That one is entirely yours to manage.)

What happens when a bundle product has options, like size or color?

Arbyn asks the shopper to choose, rather than guessing on their behalf.

If a product in the bundle has more than one available option (a bracelet in Gold or Silver, for instance), tapping Get bundle shows a picker so the shopper makes that choice themselves. A product with only one option is added automatically, with no unnecessary question. The bundle's price updates live as they choose, so what they see on the button is exactly what they'll be charged.

Why does my bundle show a different price than my product page?

It shouldn't, and here's the rule behind it. Bundle prices are read from the same live storefront pricing your product pages use, shown in the shopper's own market currency: a shopper browsing from Canada sees Canadian dollars, a shopper in the US sees US dollars, matching whatever your store already shows them elsewhere. The bundle also prices the specific variant it's about to add to the cart, not the cheapest one available, so the number on the button is the number they're actually charged, and the checkout that follows is built in that same market so the currency they were quoted is the currency they pay.

What the shopper sees

  1. Arbyn offers the bundle, either in the flow of a conversation, or the shopper finds it themselves on the Perks tab.

  2. They tap Get bundle.

  3. If any product in the bundle has options, they choose. The price updates as they do.

  4. Every product in the bundle is added to their cart, the discount applies, and they're taken to checkout with the savings already showing.

They never copy a code, paste a code, or add the products one at a time themselves.

Good to know

  • Does the discount apply to anything else already in their cart? No. The code only discounts the bundle's own products; anything else in the cart is charged at its normal price.

  • Will Arbyn create a pile of duplicate codes over time? No. Arbyn creates one reusable code per bundle and reuses that same code for every shopper who takes it. A new one is only ever minted if the previous one stops working, for example because it was deleted in Shopify.

  • Can I see the code Arbyn created? Yes, it's in Shopify's Discounts list, named ARBYN-BUNDLE- followed by a short code. Shoppers never see it as something to type themselves; it's applied for them behind the scenes.

  • Do I have to set a discount at all? No. A bundle with no discount percentage simply groups products together at full price; Arbyn only creates a code once you've set a percentage.

FAQ

Does the bundle's discount stack with other codes a shopper might have? The bundle applies its own fenced code to the bundle's products. It isn't designed to combine with an unrelated code a shopper might try to add separately.

What if none of the bundle's products can be resolved to something sellable right now (all sold out, for example)? Arbyn won't complete the offer in that case, and will fall back to helping the shopper another way rather than adding an empty or broken bundle to their cart.

Is the discount code the same one shown on the Bundle builder page? Yes. Once Arbyn creates or reuses a code for a bundle, that's the code recorded against it, and it's the same one you'd see if you looked the bundle up in Shopify's Discounts list.

Does this work the same for a collection-based bundle as a fixed one? Yes, with one difference worth knowing: because a collection-based bundle draws a different set of products on each conversation, its reusable code is fenced to the whole collection rather than to specific products, so it stays valid across every fresh draw, not just the first shopper's.
