Chat widget content: welcome message, home sections, collections, and labels

How to change your chat widget's welcome message, home screen sections, Quick actions row, Perks and Quiz labels, the collections shown, legal links, and menu wording.

Written by Joseph

The Content tab in the widget customizer controls the text, sections, and links shoppers see across your chat widget: the greeting on the chat home, which of your real store collections show up, the Quick actions row, the Perks and Quiz labels, your legal links, and the small labels in the ⋯ menu. Everything you leave blank falls back to a sensible built-in default, translated automatically to each shopper's language.

What it does

Content settings are the words and structure of your widget, separate from its colors (Design tab) and its timing or visibility (Behavior tab). Nearly every field here is optional: leave it blank and Arbyn uses its own default wording, so you only need to touch the fields where you actually want something different from the built-in copy.

Where to find it

  1. Go to Settings, Chat widget.

  2. Click Customize widget.

  3. Click the Content tab.

  4. Change a setting, then click Save. The live preview updates as you edit.

How it works

Welcome message

Set the heading (for example "Welcome") and the body line shoppers see at the top of the chat home, plus the placeholder text inside the message box (the default is "Type a message…"). Leave any of the three blank to use Arbyn's default, which is translated automatically for every shopper's language.

Home sections: Discover and Quick actions

The chat home has two built in sections: Discover (collection tiles) and Quick actions (Track order, Edit address, and so on). For each section, you can:

  • Rename it. Change the section's label and its emoji.

  • Hide the whole section. Uncheck the section's "Show" toggle to remove the entire section, heading and all its tiles or cards, from the chat home. Useful if you don't sell across enough collections to make Discover useful, or you'd rather not offer the quick-action shortcuts at all.

  • Hide individual quick actions. Under Quick actions, uncheck any of the five built in actions (Track order, Edit address, Cancel order, Return item, Gift card balance) to hide just that one while keeping the rest.

  • Rename an individual quick action. Each of the five also has its own title and subtitle override, so you can, for example, change "Return item" to wording that matches your own returns process, without touching the other four.

Your real store collections (Discover)

Instead of Arbyn's generic Discover tiles, you can show shoppers up to 4 of your own collections. Click Change collections to open Shopify's collection picker; your current picks show up already checked, so you're adding to or removing from your existing selection, not starting over every time. For each collection you can also choose what image shows on its tile: the collection's own Shopify image, an image you upload yourself, or Arbyn's default gradient look. Clearing all your picks and saving returns Discover to its built in generic set.

Perks and Quiz labels

If you run discounts, bundles, or a product quiz, their labels throughout the widget are also editable here: the Perks and Quiz pills shown in the chat header, the Perks page section titles ("Active discounts," "Bundles"), and the Get bundle button text shown both on the Perks page and on an in-chat bundle offer. Every label has a small emoji field beside it. Leave a label blank and Arbyn uses its built in, translated wording; type your own and that exact text shows to every shopper regardless of their language, so only override a label if you specifically want identical wording everywhere.

Legal links in the ⋯ menu

Turn on Terms of service and/or Privacy policy to show a link to each in the widget's ⋯ menu. For each one you can set your own label and the URL it points to (either a path on your own store, like /policies/privacy-policy, or a full https:// address). Both are off by default, so nothing shows until you turn them on and set a URL.

⋯-menu action labels

Rename the action rows shoppers see in the ⋯ menu: Start a new chat, End chat, and Dark mode. The confirmation dialog shown before starting a new chat or ending one follows whatever wording you've set for those rows. Leave any blank to keep Arbyn's translated default.

Good to know

  • Every field here is optional, and blank means "use the translated default." You never have to fill out this whole page; most stores only touch a handful of fields.

  • A label you type yourself is NOT auto-translated. It shows exactly as you typed it, in every language, which is the point if you want consistent wording, but worth knowing if you serve shoppers in several languages and want each to see their own.

  • Discover collections cap at 4. Pick your strongest or most-asked-about collections; there's no way to show more than 4 tiles at once.

  • Hiding a whole section is different from hiding one quick action. The section toggle removes the heading and everything under it; the per-action checkboxes only affect that one action, with the rest of the section staying visible.

  • Legal links need a URL to actually appear. Turning "Show" on without setting a URL leaves the link showing the default policy path on your own store; set an explicit URL if you want it to point somewhere else, like an external terms page.

FAQ

If I rename "Return item" to something else, does that change how returns actually work? No. Renaming a quick action only changes its label and subtitle in the widget. The underlying flow it triggers (a return conversation, in this case) is unaffected.

Can I show more than 4 collections in Discover? No, 4 is the current maximum. Choose the collections most likely to help a shopper find what they're looking for.

What happens if I clear all my Discover collection picks? Discover falls back to Arbyn's built in generic set of tiles rather than showing an empty section.

Do the Perks and Quiz labels affect the discounts and bundles themselves? No. These are display labels only, the pills and headings shoppers see. What discounts, bundles, or quiz questions actually exist is configured separately in Sales Skills.

Will a shopper in French see my custom welcome message translated, or exactly as I typed it? Exactly as you typed it. Custom text you enter yourself is never auto-translated; only Arbyn's own built in wording (used when a field is left blank) is translated per shopper.
